Melissa is a Native New Mexican who has devoted her life to serving people throughout the state, region, and country. Melissa’s work includes Director of Thriving Families at Community Action Agency Southern New Mexico. Where she is working on developing a hybrid community wide navigating program. Working through a trauma informed systemic approach to break down barriers and help families and communities thrive.
Melissa has lead by serving as chair of LC3 Behavioral Health, Co-Chair of Las Cruces Resilience Housing Taskforce, Presbyterian Community Health Advisory Committee, NM First Executive board member, Vice-Chair of Democratic Party New Mexico Forenza Unidas Metro Rep., American Public Health boards and committees: Council of Affiliates, Climate, Health and Equity board, Community Health Planning and Policy Development Committee, and the Rural Health Taskforce. “My goal is to facilitate collaboration and partnerships with NM’s state and local representatives, NM’s state departments, colleges and universities, for profit and non-profit agencies to create systemic change.
She leads by advocating for policies that support and influence health equity for all families and communities in New Mexico.”
